Oh man, I'm in love with historic Florida. We have been to McIntosh, Micanopy, historic Gainesville, St. Augustine, around historic areas here in my hometown, and then today we headed to Cassadaga, a "spiritualist" town with a lot of palm-readers and such. Nearby is Lake Helen with beautiful open yards and old trees (and a cool bird). Then we headed to Mt. Dora. It is set on top of a large-ish hill (for Florida) which dumps into a huge lake. The town is all hilly, so while your walking you are going up and down on the sidewalks. There are tons of little boutiques and cafes and musicians playing in outdoor restaurants. All the area is historic, so there is a really cool vibe there. St. Augustine is still my favorite because it is just so amazingly old (the oldest continuously inhabited city in the USA- since the 1500's). The architecture is outstanding there.
These are pictures from Lake Helen and Mt. Dora:
St. Augustine will be uploaded manana! (The pictures, that is.)
