The following is an unedited, stream-of-consciousness personal journal used to experiment with different subjects outside of assignments and to practice free-writing. It shouldn't (at all) be viewed as a portfolio of polished work.

"I'm convinced that a return to the basics is needed"- Blue Scholars, Southside Revival

I just have to put some things out there. Things like the fact that I love tradition, handmade, the return that I am seeing of our generation to classic and slow like cooking meals at home and homemade gifts. I love that we are savoring history and embracing new ideas at the same time, that we are reverencing old ways and trying to correct wrongs done by "new" ways (now old) by returning to the earth and organic and natural. I love our initiative as a generation to stand up for what we are passionate about, but to do it in a personal way without waving picket signs and being in people's faces. I love that we are shying away from the idea of the "disposable society"- that we run to thrift shops, that we reuse old things to make our apartments and houses comfy, that we are dedicated to our canvas shopping bags. I love that we are taking time to take photographs, to remember stories, to cherish friendships and reconnecting through honest communication rather than giving it solely over to texts and tweets and such. I love that we are starting to appreciate letterpress, handwritten letters, and our grandmother's sewing machine. I love that we are looking for food that is heirloom, food within our region, food within season, food grown from our own balconies. I love that we haven't been afraid to hold on to our childhood and relish the things that went along with it (slip and slides, cake, parties, crazy dancing, toys, riding bikes, for example).

There's so much I love and am grateful for in our generation. Thank you!

  3. Thanks =) It's kinda funny to put a Blue Scholars quote in a post that sports a picture that Martha Stewart would love, but there it is.
